Nobody gets it but us - Anders Duus

Ingen fattar utom vi” (Nobody gets it but us) was written for Riksteatern in 2013. It toured Sweden extensively for two seasons, and was selected for the Swedish Theatre Biennale in 2015.

In the play, three girls on the border between childhood and teens meet as they escape from a beginner’s salsa class. They are all stuck in restricting roles: Wilma, who used to be popular, has moved to a new town and now can’t seem to remember how to make friends. Roxana is smart, responsible and admired, but cowering under the expectations put on her by parents, teachers and admiring friends. And Ida is the mascot of a group of older kids, fighting hard to keep up her tough chick mask while being coerced into growing up too fast.

The girls find themselves on the loading dock of a furniture store, where they accidently invent a game: they discover clever ways of sabotaging the furniture. It’s fun, it’s creative, it brings them together and forms the foundation of a friendship that helps them to make changes in their lives. It’s unfortunately also criminal. And one day the police ring the doorbell.

In the aftermath it becomes apparent that the grown up world has no patience or understanding for the girls’ behaviour. It also becomes painfully clear that they don’t all fall equally hard, as troubled, lower class Ida becomes the main scapegoat.

Told in short, distinct scenes in a format where the girls act out and tell their story, ”Ingen fattar utom vi” is a play about friendship, courage and the strength that can be found in destruction.
