My big secret - Lucas Svensson
The girl AJ and her mother lives a poor and alienated life as Finnish immigrants in Sweden. AJ has a big secret: her father is in prison back in Finland. She longs desperately for him and speaks with him in dreams and through letters. She can not understand why he is in prison, why, as she fears, he chose not to be with her. He tells her that if a person want’s to much freedom, she often is doomed to lose it all. In the end they meet briefly, and for a second they are happy but the girl AJ stops telling the story before it gets worse again, as she expect it to do.
The play is based on the actress Aja Rodas life and was originally commissioned by Teater Gyllene Draken and directed by Michael Cocke. It opened to critical acclaim and toured in Sweden for three years, in 2023 it was invited to Washington DC for a series of performances.
